Governing Body

Nicky Robinson – Chair Of Governors

I joined the Governing Body in October 2007 as a Parent Governor as I was keen to take a more active role in the school community, and also hoped to make a positive contribution to the development of the school. I was elected Chair by the Governing Body in September 2009. My career started as a Graduate Trainee with the John Lewis Partnership based in the Welwyn Garden City store. I was then lured to work for ICL (a computer company) in Stevenage where I joined the logistics team responsible for the delivery of Retail products (Point of sale systems).
I had the opportunity to work across the businesses within ICL, working in Imports and Exports, Counter trade with Eastern Europe (where we’d trade computers for goods such as Polish sausages, Czech Crystal and Russian typewriters!) I also worked with ICL’s International Trade customers based in Africa and the Middle East, and was lucky enough to travel all over the
world. My career took me to live and work in Finland for Nokia’s PC division based in Helsinki for a while. I returned to the UK in 1993 to get married and move to Manchester still working for Nokia. I then went to work for my largest customer in Warrington (Technology Plc) as their Purchasing Manager responsible for a large team with a multi million pounds spend. I had an opportunity to follow my husband to Birmingham, and went to work for Fujitsu in Edgbaston, working in the Commercial team responsible for Government and Local Government contracts. After a couple of years I moved to work for Fujitsu Services as a Senior Manager and found myself living and working in Solihull. In 1999 we had twins (Katie and Daniel) and when they
started school I took a career break!
My interests include Tennis (I play mixed and ladies doubles at Solihull Arden), learning to play the Piano (I’m about to take Grade 3!), learning new languages – I speak rusty French and now have holiday Spanish! I also love gardening and growing vegetables on our Allotment. In May 2010 I completed the Moonwalk with friends (an overnight marathon power walk in London) raising £5,800 for Breast Cancer which was one of my prouder moments!
